Teaching our students about HONORING those who have served our country is something we are very enthused to do at Horizon. So on November 11th, 2014
Veteran's Day, we invite those who are Veteran relatives of children attending Horizon to do so.
On Veterans Day, our guests can arrive any time after 7:50a.m. for complimentary bagels and such in our Horizon Cafeteria. The ceremony for the students will start at 8:45 in the Horizon Gym with the posting of the colors by our own Wisconsin State VFW Honor Guard. After pledging allegiance to our flag, a history of Veterans Day will be recited, the veterans who are present will be introduced, and we will honor them with essays and a song. Taps will be played and the colors retired. Afterwards, Veterans who have indicated they would like to present in classrooms will visit with students to talk about how they displayed their patriotism by serving their country.
If a student of Horizon has a relative that has served our country that would like to join us on Veterans Day, please email Mrs. Farrow, school counselor, at email@example.com by Wednesday Nov. 5, 2014 so that we may plan accordingly. IN THAT EMAIL -
Indicate the service branch they were in, the years they served and in what capacity. Feel free to list any honors they received or where they were deployed.
If that Veteran is also interested in speaking in the classroom afterwards, please indicate so. Please do not be offended if the classroom positions have two to a classroom to speak after the ceremony.
